Flashcard rules for another LLM (_____ = cloze)
Core
• Dont make cards for things not yet understood.
• One card = one fact.
• Answers must be minimal (15 words, number, or short phrase).
Cloze (_____ )
• Use _____ for one missing item only per card.
• Blank the key term/number, not vague words.
• Keep enough surrounding text to disambiguate, nothing extra.
• If a sentence has multiple facts → make multiple cloze cards.
• For sequences/lists → use overlapping clozes, never “list all”.
Context (critical)
• Always make the domain obvious.
• Use a consistent prefix when needed: bioch:, anat:, phys:, pharm:, etc.
• Add disambiguators for similar items (unit, condition, location, comparison).
• If two cards could be confused, rewrite or split.
Wording
• Short, direct prompts; no filler.
• Avoid negatives; if unavoidable, make them explicit.
• Stable phrasing across related cards.
Split the card if
• The answer contains “and/or”, a list, or >7 words.
• Two independent facts are tested.
• Its repeatedly forgotten.
Metadata (not tested)
• Attach source and date/version separately.
Sanity check
• Answerable in <5 seconds.
• Only one unambiguous correct answer.
• No hidden second fact.
Example
• bioch: GRE = _____ → glucocorticoid response element
• The Dead Sea is on the border between _____ → Israel and Jordan
